Individual Therapy
A place to put things down, without an audience. Individual therapy at Trust is one person and one licensed or qualified therapist, meeting by secure video, working through whatever’s actually going on – not a scripted intake, not a diagnosis-first conversation. For a lot of people, the first session is the first time they’ve said any of it out loud.

What individual therapy is

Therapeutic approaches we use
Your therapist chooses an approach based on what you’re actually working through, not a one-size-fits-all protocol. Common approaches include cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), which helps identify and reshape the thought patterns that fuel anxiety and low mood; trauma-focused approaches, which process difficult experiences at a pace your nervous system can handle rather than forcing you to relive them; and mindfulness-based techniques, which build practical tools for managing stress and staying present when your mind wants to spiral. Some clients benefit from a blend of approaches over time as the work evolves.
Signs individual therapy may help
You don’t need a crisis to justify starting. Some signs worth paying attention to: you’re more irritable than usual and can’t pinpoint why, you’ve stopped enjoying things that used to matter to you, you’re more tired than sleep can fix, you’re avoiding people or situations you used to handle fine, or you just have a persistent sense that something needs to change and you don’t know where to start. “I don’t even know if this is bad enough to need therapy” is one of the most common things we hear. It usually is.

How is individual therapy different from your other services?
It’s one-on-one — no partner or family member joins. Couples or Family Therapy is a better fit if that’s what you’re looking for.
Do I need to know what’s “wrong” with me first?
No. Plenty of clients start without a diagnosis or a clear label for what they’re dealing with — that’s often part of what therapy helps you figure out.
How often will I meet with my therapist?
Usually weekly at first, adjusting to less frequent as things stabilize.
How much does individual therapy cost?
With insurance, your cost depends on your specific plan, which we verify before your first session. Without insurance, sliding scale and private pay start at $55.
How long is a typical session?
50 minutes.
Can I switch therapists if it’s not clicking?
Yes — tell us after a session or two, and we’ll help you find a better fit.
Is this confidential?
Yes, with narrow legal exceptions around safety your therapist explains upfront.
Do you prescribe medication?
No — we don’t have prescribers on staff. If medication might help, we’ll talk with you about coordinating with your primary care doctor or referring you out.
What’s the difference between a therapist and a psychologist?
Both provide mental health treatment; the difference is usually in training and licensure type. What matters most for fit is your therapist’s specific experience with what you’re working through, which is exactly what our matching process accounts for.
How does online individual therapy work?
You meet by secure video from anywhere private, as long as you’re physically located in a state where your therapist is licensed. For the full explanation of the technology and format, see our Online Therapy page.
